Benefits of LPG AutoGas

There are any number of advantages to using LPG as an automotive fuel, some of which can be found below. The two best-known advantages are that by running your vehicle on Autogas you could reduce your carbon footprint and it also allows you to make significant financial savings.

Lower emissions - When compared to petrol and diesel, LPG (Autogas) produces significantly fewer harmful emissions into the atmosphere, making it the perfect fuel choice for the environmentally aware. Air quality, particular in urban areas, is a continuing issue for health reasons. In 2004 Department of Health statistics show that particulates are responsible for thousands of advanced deaths and thousands of instances of illness. NOx emissions are also a major element of low level ozone, which causes smog and can worsen existing asthma conditions.

Autogas produces:
17% less CO2 than petrol
50% less NOx than petrol
120 times less small particle emissions than diesel

Better for your engine - Believe it or not, Autogas is also better for your engine. Oil and filter life can be doubled as LPG leaves less deposits in the combustion process than petrol or diesel, reducing the chances of oil contamination. Cylinder and piston wear is reduced because LPG mixes better with the air during cold starts. This is because it enters the chamber as a gas, as opposed to diesel and petrol, which enter as a liquid.

Cheaper to run- The current cost of Autogas is approximately half that of petrol and diesel which results in annual savings of around 40%. Despite a slightly higher consumption when compared to petrol or diesel, the cost savings are still significant.

Duty and tax savings - In addition to savings at the pump, Autogas also enjoys a lower fuel duty rate, a reduction in Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax), company car tax and even savings on congestion charges in cities such as London. The UK government has committed to limiting fuel duty rises until 2014. Some London boroughs and local councils have also reduced parking rates for LPG vehicles.

In addition to all of these, the engine noise from an Autogas vehicle is low, reducing noise pollution. And on the safety front, Autogas quickly evaporates in the event of a fuel spill, unlike petrol and diesel so there is no risk of ground or water contamination.
