Oxygen is widely used with a fuel gas for cutting, welding, brazing and soldering. The use of oxygen gives higher flame temperatures than if air is used. Features Supplied with a 99.5% purity rating Colourless and odourless Does not burn but supports and accelerates combustion Non-toxic at atmospheric pressure Benefits Vigorously supports combustion. Introducing oxygen to conventional air-fuel flames increases the temperature of the flame. Used as an ingredient in some shielding gas mixtures, due to its ability to help stabilise the arc and reduce surface tension. When cutting, a 1% reduction in purity increases oxygen consumption by 25% and reduces the cutting speed by a similar amount. Cylinders & supply Industrial Oxygen cylinder sizes include the compact, portable E cylinder containing 0.68m3 of gas and weighing just 7kg.

BOC's Alushield is a range of advanced shielding gases specially formulated for MIG and TIG welding aluminium over a wide range of thickness. Combining helium with argon these mixtures greatly improve welding speeds, increase deposition rates and reduce preheat requirements. Alushield will help a skilled welder to produce smooth, clean, defect free welds in all grades of aluminium. Alushield Universal A 50% mixture of argon and helium is used for manual and semiautomatic MIG and TIG welding. It produces a more fluid weld pool than Alushield Light, and so tends to be used on thicker components. Fusion and penetration are excellent reducing defect rates, improving productivity while reducing costs. The high energy available means that little or no preheating is required when welding thicker aluminium sections or copper and that in some cases weld preparations can be reduced in size further reducing cost. Benefits 50% helium & 50% argon mixture Produces flatter, neater weld beads in MIG welding and uses less wire for better efficiencies Produces greater weld speeds and improved weld integrity with high-quality fusion profiles Provides reduced preheat times with flatter weld beads, less clean-up and lower defect rates when MIG or TIG welding copper alloys Improves electrical conductivity of welding components

Combining helium with argon these mixtures greatly improve welding speeds, increase deposition rates and reduce preheat requirements. Alushield will help a skilled welder to produce smooth, clean, defect free welds in all grades of aluminium. Alushield Heavy Alushield Heavy is a mixture of 75% helium and 25% argon developed primarily for the MIG welding of aluminium above 10mm and TIG welding of aluminium above 6mm thick. It produces the most fluid weld pool of all the Alushield gases and this gives deep, broad weld profiles with much lower reinforcement levels than the other gases, especially argon. On thick sections (12mm and above) an added advantage of Alushield Heavy is that plate edge preparation angles are reduced without losing penetration. This is due to Alushield Heavy's ability to punch into a material with its far higher energy transfer. Not having to use such a large edge preparation angle reduces the amount of wire required to complete joints and the number of welding passes, a key part in cutting production costs. Benefits 75% helium & 25% argon mixture Ideal for MIG welding aluminium above 10mm & TIG welding aluminium above 6mm Improves welding speed, increases deposition rates, cuts preheat requirements Improves welding speed, increases deposition rates, cuts preheat requirements Produces smooth, clean and defect free welds Reduce your production costs, use less wire and welding passes

Combining helium with argon these mixtures greatly improve welding speeds, increase deposition rates and reduce preheat requirements. Alushield will help a skilled welder to produce smooth, clean, defect free welds in all grades of aluminium. Alushield Light This mixture of 30% helium, balance argon is used for both MIG and TIG welding thin to medium section thicknesses. Fusion and penetration profiles are improved over pure argon as are its gap bridging capabilities reducing the chances of burn through. The addition of helium also helps to lower the levels of porosity reducing defect rates. Preheating will still be required for welding most thicknesses of copper but temperatures will be lower than for argon. Benefits Produces high-quality welds with good integrity, increased penetration and flatter weld beads Produces improved fusion and reduced defects Improved production rates and cost-efficiencies are achieved by increased welding speeds

Awaiting image Argon/Hydrogen 2.5% H2, Ar has been developed to have improved characteristics over argon suited to manual applications, welders find the more fluid weld pool easier to control giving flatter, smoother weld beads. Easier and faster to use than argon, the small amount of hydrogen helps to scavenge any oxygen from around the weld area, producing a bright clean weld and smooth surface finish. The hydrogen content of the shielding gas stiffens the welding arc and increases the fluidity of the weld pool, making it easier to produce a neat, tidy weld bead. Improved fluidity increases welding speed compared to argon, resulting in lower weld costs.

Argoshield Light is specifically formulated for MIG welding sheet and thin sections of mild steel less than 4mm thick. The low levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the weld reduce the risk of burning through and leaving holes in the weld area. The addition of oxygen improves the flow of the molten weld metal producing flatter welds with lower levels of reinforcement. This can greatly reduce the need to machine or grind down the reinforcement, which is a known stress raiser, reducing production costs. Argoshield Light has excellent arc stability minimising the amount of spatter produced. Reduced spatter means less welding wire being wasted, as well as shorter clean up time. This makes the product ideal for welding components that are painted or powder coated after welding. The faster welding speeds achievable with this gas coupled with a low heat input also help to reduce welding distortion. Benefits Combines 2% Oxygen, 5% Carbon Dioxide, balance Argon Formulated for MIG welding sheet and thin sections of mild steel less than 4mm thick Ideal for duct and sheet-metal engineering industries A suitable gas in automotive component manufacturing and vehicle repair as it provides dip transfer in all positions with solid wire The oxidising potential of this mixture has a tendency to produce welds with a black surface film. In many stainless steel applications, this type of surface finish would be considered unacceptable and removal of the surface film would be required. Cleaning away this residue can be both time-consuming and costly. Due to this, other products such as the BOC Stainshield range of gases would be recommended.

Nitrogen (Oxygen free) 230bar supplied in multiple cylinder sizes (2.1m3 to 9.8m3 capacity) Nitrogen is a non-corrosive, inert gas and is compatible with any common metals provided the equipment is designed to with stand the process pressure of a compressed gas cylinder. Inert to nearly all substances at ambient temperatures and moderate conditions. Nitrogen keeps laser-cut faces oxide-free due to the chemical inertness to react with the atmosphere. At higher temperatures, nitrogen can react to form metal nitrides. Nitrogen gas is only slightly soluble in a wide range of liquids and is therefore used to flush unwanted gases from solutions. Reduces internal degradation of the rubber in tyres due to oxidisation. As a cryogenic liquid, nitrogen can be used to thermally contract metals.

The BOC Specshield range delivers superior results when TIG or plasma welding austenitic stainless steels or plasma cutting stainless steel and aluminium. This argon-nitrogen mixture has been specially developed to deliver optimum results when TIG welding duplex stainless steels. Nitrogen is present as 2.5% by volume as many duplex stainless steels, particularly super duplex stainless steels, have nitrogen in the metal to improve corrosion resistance. When heated for welding (with a standard shielding gas) there is a danger that the nitrogen levels in the duplex stainless steel will lessen and corrosion resistance deteriorates. Specshield 2.5% Nitrogen in Argon reduces the level of nitrogen loss in these metals to ensure good corrosion resistance as well an excellent weld quality. Advanced BOC Shielding Gas Argon-nitrogen mixture formulated for welding duplex stainless steels Argon-nitrogen mixture formulated for welding duplex stainless steels Delivers good, first-time weld quality

The BOC Specshield range combines argon and hydrogen to deliver superior results when TIG or plasma welding austenitic stainless steels or plasma cutting stainless steel and aluminium. The addition of hydrogen to Specshield improves the penetration and surface finish. In automatic welding hydrogen improves welding speeds and produces a flatter weld bead. Specshield 5% Hydrogen in Argon achieves better welding speeds than other suitable shielding gases, helps cut production costs as well as reducing the amount of distortion created in the components being produced. Adding hydrogen increases the cleaning of the material being welded and the amount of energy transferred into the weld, resulting in better welding speeds and less post-weld cleaning. Stainshield TIG gas has been developed to have improved characteristics over argon suited to manual applications, including TIG welding austenitic stainless steel (300 series). Welders find the more fluid weld pool easier to control giving flatter, smoother weld beads. Primarily used for plasma welding of austenitic stainless steels. The thicker the section of material to be welded, the higher the hydrogen content in the plasma shielding gas.

Oxygen is most commonly known as a gas which aids combustion for cutting, welding, brazing and soldering. Sometimes, you can also use this gas as an assist gas for plasma/laser cutting mild steel, or thermal lancing of masonry (brick, concrete and stone). Using Oxygen with a fuel gas (such as Acetylene) produces a much higher flame temperature than when used with other fuel gas types, and supports combustion of materials that would not ordinarily burn. For fixed installations, we can supply the gas in a packs ; both 11 x 50 litre and 16 x 50 litre depending on your usage. Additionally, we also supply single cylinders in a variety of sizes; 10 litre to 50 litre which are fitted with industry standard BS3 valves, and our VIPR 30 litre cylinder which features a built-in regulator and quick connect fittings, the perfect product for mobile applications. This product is not suitable for medical use and there are many materials which are not compatible with Oxygen, therefore we urge you to comply with all safe working practices when using Oxygen in your workplace.

Industrial grade oxygen is commonly used with a fuel gas for cutting, welding, brazing and soldering as it supports combustion and gives much higher flame temperatures than if air is used. For cutting with oxygen an oxy-fuel flame preheats the steel to its ignition temperature further to which gaseous oxygen flows onto the red-hot steel, generating more heat and melting the steel.
