BOC's Alushield is a range of advanced shielding gases specially formulated for MIG and TIG welding aluminium over a wide range of thickness. Combining helium with argon these mixtures greatly improve welding speeds, increase deposition rates and reduce preheat requirements. Alushield will help a skilled welder to produce smooth, clean, defect free welds in all grades of aluminium.
Alushield Heavy
Alushield Heavy is a mixture of 75% helium and 25% argon developed primarily for the MIG welding of aluminium above 10mm and TIG welding of aluminium above 6mm thick.It produces the most fluid weld pool of all the Alushield gases and this gives deep, broad weld profiles with much lower reinforcement levels than the other gases, especially argon.
On thick sections (12mm and above) an added advantage of Alushield Heavy is that plate edge preparation angles are reduced without losing penetration.This is due to Alushield Heavy's ability to punch into a material with its far higher energy transfer. Not having to use such a large edge preparation angle reduces the amount of wire required to complete joints and the number of welding passes, a key part in cutting production costs.
