Nitrogen Gas is one of the most prolific elements found in the atmosphere. As a result it is one of the most versatile gases used for various applications. The most common is to create Ammonia. It is a fascinating and essential element that makes up about 78% of the Earth's atmosphere. It is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas at room temperature and is famously "inert," meaning it doesn't react easily with other substances
History: Nitrogen was officially discovered in 1772 by the Scottish physician and chemist Daniel Rutherford. He conducted a famous experiment where he kept a mouse in a sealed jar until it could no longer survive. He then burned a candle in the remaining air until it went out, and finally burned phosphorus until it, too, stopped burning. After passing the remaining gas through a solution to remove carbon dioxide, he found a gas that would not support life or combustion. He called it "noxious air" or "phlogisticated air." While Rutherford is credited with the discovery because he published his findings first, other famous scientists like Carl Wilhelm Scheele, Henry Cavendish, and Joseph Priestley were studying the same "burnt air" independently around the same time.
