Hydrogen is the first element on the periodic table and the most abundant chemical substance in the universe, making up roughly 75% of all normal matter. At standard temperature and pressure, it is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, and highly flammable diatomic gas. It is the simplest possible atom, consisting of just one proton and one electron. It is a high-energy fuel. When burned, it combines with oxygen to produce water and energy, making it a key player in the future of clean energy and "Green Hydrogen" technology.
History: The British scientist Henry Cavendish is recognized as the first to identify hydrogen as a distinct element in1766 He collected the gas produced by reacting zinc and iron with acids. He called it "inflammable air" and observed that it produced water when burned. In1783 the French chemist Antoine Lavoisier (often called the father of modern chemistry) gave the element the name "Hydrogen." He derived it from the Greek words hydro (water) and genes (forming), literally meaning "water-former."
